Paint Correction & Glaze

Glaze

An application of glaze is applied to the bodywork to mask minor defects and to enhance surface gloss. This prepares the surface ready to apply wax or sealant on the bodywork. Glaze does not remove scratches or swirls but will help to diminish them from the eye. This option is included in PV3 Premium Plus Full Valet and PV3 Premium Plus Exterior Valet.

Please note: if you have 1 or a few panels that need paint correction this can be arranged upon request.

Mid Range Paint Correction

Mid range paint correction is designed to remove light swirl marks, holograms and fading paint work with either 1 or 2 stage machine polish, which ever is needed. Before we start any machine polishing we use our state of the art thickness gauge to check paint thickness. Although mid range paint correction is effective there is no guarantee to remove heavy swirls, scratches and heavy defects but will help to minimise them. To remove these heavy defects you will need a full paint correction.

Plastic head lights and rear lights can also have swirl marks, which can be removed safely with careful machine polishing.

1-2 day

Full Range Paint Correction

This detail is designed for vehicles with more serious paint defects, such as heavy swirl marks, light scratches, badly fading paint and etching caused by bug remains and bird droppings. This is achieved by conducting a paint thickness check with our state of the art thickness gauge, then the process of a highly intensive sanding process followed by three or five stage machine polishing to re-level the paint, which will leave a layer of unblemished paint, we can usually guarantee full correction of 99% of paint defects present to be removed and typically require around 2-5 days to complete the work. By restoring the condition of the bodywork to near perfect showroom condition, the high cost of this detail is usually fully offset by the positive effect on the residual value of the vehicle in question.

Plastic on head lights and rear lights can also have swirl marks, which can be removed safely with careful machine polishing.

Explanation of defects

Swirl Marks

These consist of fine scratches in a circular motion some can even have a spider web pattern as well. This is generally caused by the rollover type car wash or by a sponge; this is because grit has got between the car wash/sponge and the paintwork during normal washing causing the swirl marks while you clean your vehicle. These swirls refract the light rather than reflecting it, this often is the cause of dull paintwork. Fine scratches only tend to show up in bright sunlight or bright artificial light. Due to the fact that fine scratches only appear in the uppermost surface of the vehicles surface, enabling them to be safely removed by careful machine polishing which will return the shine to your vehicles paintwork. Plastic head lights and rear lights can also have swirl marks, which can be removed safely with careful machine polishing.

Holograms

Another paint defect often found, consisting of micro marring in the paints surface. Micro marring produces a stereoscopic image producing an almost 3d effect on the surface. Resembling cloud like formations that appear to float on or above the surface. These also can be easily removed with careful machine polishing.

Scratches

These can be reduced or removed by careful machine polishing; a general rule is that if you can catch your finger nail in a scratch then it probably cannot be removed fully by machine polishing, although they can be reduced significantly to good effect. Removing the scratch fully will take a longer careful process involving filling the scratch with paint, wet sanding and then machine polishing the area to restore the shine. Plastic head lights and rear lights can also have scratches, which can be removed safely with careful machine polishing.

Oxidation (faded paintwork)

This happens to paint work over a period of time, you’ve probably seen a vehicle with pink dull paintwork which should be glossy red. Due to the fact the suns UV rays bleach the paintwork. Correcting the problem is done by machine polishing the vehicle to remove the oxidation and returning the shine. Paintwork can then be sealed with products containing UV blockers to help protect the paintwork and preserve the shine. Please note these happen on none metallic or pearlescent finishes.

Buffer trails

This is the evidence left from poor machine polishing – usually by an inexperienced operator. Sometimes seen after cars have been polished by dealerships or body shops where they have used a harsh compound. These can be easily removed with a finer compound and careful machine polishing.

Paint Inspection Report

Buying a new or used car can be a minefield if the dealer doesn't tell you about any pre-delivery accidents or if the history of the vehicle is unknown. This service is designed to set your mind at rest by providing a formal written report on the condition and thickness of the paint on any vehicle that you specify. Using state of the art paint thickness gauges and special lighting, we can identify paint defects and accident damage repairs on both metal and composite panels and enable you to make a better informed purchasing decision. Over the past 4 years we have experienced some clients that have bought vehicles and brought them to us for vehicle preparation. We then have informed them that the vehicle has had paint work done and left over spray on adjacent panels as well as poor wheel re-furbishment, they now wish they hadn’t bought the vehicle. With our intervention you could save your self the trouble of purchasing a new vehicle with non-disclosed pre-delivery accident damage, and used vehicles with non-disclosed accident damage repairs or poorly finished repairs.
